Knowing Baguio


Almost Ten Hundred years ago when Baguio was established by the Americans. It was designated by the Philippine Commission to be the Summer Capital of the country. The city lies at the high lands of the Cordillera Mountain Range and home for 301,926 people according to the 2007 Census. Baguio maintain its peace and orderliness by designating many Patrol Police that roam in the city Twenty-four hours a day. 
Baguio’s economy is centered on its educational institutions which has Eight both universities and colleges  namely University of the Philippines Baguio Campus, Philippine Military Academy, Saint Louis University-Baguio, University of the Cordilleras, Baguio Central University, Pines City University and Easter College. The City of Pines is also considered as a university town as the population of the students dominates the quarter of the Baguio’s total population (141,088 students out of the 301,926 population count done on the year 2007).
Tourism, Baguio’s main industry. Baguio remains a leading tourist destination in Northern Luzon due to its cool environment, clean, green and serene environment unlike other tourist destinations in the Philippines. The city's natural environment remains an vital and crucial tow factor for local and foreign visitors. The city is known for its different tourist attractions, one of those is  the Panagbenga Festival and many tourist destinations like Burnham Park, Botanical Garden, Camp John Hay, and the Lourdes Grotto.  According to National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) Stat Watch October 27, 2009 issue, 207,426 tourist visited Baguio during the fourth quarter of the year 2006.
